Starting the countdown already

It’s crazy to think that it’s only the 4th week of school…and I’m seriously dying to go back home already. Or maybe, not home, but to a place where its at least 85 to 90 degrees permanently and where I can jump in the ocean and scuba dive my life away. I miss being outdoors and going on random hikes through the bushes…oh and going down the islands. One of my favourite places in the world. I’m clearly meant to be a beach bum…and I’m totally fine with that. Fall has only just begun and to me it’s already freezing…I don’t know how I plan to survive for the next 2-3 months. The semester is already dragging on and I see SMG more than I see my own apartment. Not ok.  In any case, I am glad for the friends I have up here who share the same sense of adventure that I do and are always eager to go out and find something random to do. It’s the only thing that keeps me sane. Can’t wait to see what we come up with this weekend =D

Oh and just as a side note, this is my 5 seconds of venting…BU Study Abroad needs to hurry the hell up and accept my application already!!! It’s been over 4 weeks and every email notification I get has me hanging to the edges of my phone screen hoping that it’s from them. It’s beginning to piss me off…just sayin

How does the Internet work? See how a continent gets plugged in

Since I’m studying Information Systems at the moment, I thought this video was quite insightful, making us look at the physical presence of the internet that we hardly think about, rather than the non-physical.

TED Blog

This image of a mysterious person emerging from the ocean looks like a shot from a James Bond movie. But as journalist Andrew Blum explains in today’s fascinating talk from TEDGlobal 2012, the photo actually reveals how the World Wide Web can stretch across continents—through a series of cables running for thousands of miles under oceans.

Yes, the Internet is a mysterious virtual thing that magically seems to appear on our computer screens and smartphones, but it requires a physical infrastructure. Blum admits that he, like most people, never gave much thought to how the internet works until, one day, his connection pooped out.

“The cable guy came to fix it, and he started with some dusty cables behind the couch, which he followed out of the building to the basement to the backyard, where there was a jumble of wires along the back wall,” Blum recalls in his…

Welcome to the Gun show, seriously.

So last weekend, my friends, being weird as they are, called me up and asked me to go to a shooting range with them. Random. But I was actually pretty excited and always had a fascination with shooting stuff…and by that I mean shooting zombies while playing Call of Duty on my ps3. In any case we were bored, we had a car, and so off we went. We got to shoot various types of guns, many of which I can’t remember the name of because I’m a girl. But I do remember shooting a 9mm glock and a 22 caliber rifle…and it was so sooo cool. And I was pretty good too, hitting the center target almost always haha. It was definitely a successful day and worth every penny. It was also a great release from all the stress from school and I will most probably be going back sometime in the near future.

So the lesson of this story is don’t get me angry.

Just kidding 🙂

One Day!

This is without a doubt one of my favourite videos ever. It was made by a guy called Devin Graham who I personally think has the greatest life ever. I’m a huge nature person and this video has me wanting to visit Kauai more than any other place in the world.

Mom’s in Town!

Mom came to visit this week and she couldn’t have come at a more perfect time. One week in CORE so far and I was already lacking hours of sleep and also proper nutrition. She came and cooked for me and helped me clean my entire apartment! It was…fannntastic! We got the chance to visit one of the Boston Harbour Islands called “Spectacle Island”. It was such an amazing place and we picked a really great day to go there. I highly recommend it to any nature lover out there. The views from the island are too good to pass up!
